Level 1 Lock Word Activities Workbook

Help students “lock” in their knowledge of high-frequency and high-utility vocabulary! This workbook provides a systematic process for students learning to read and spell high-frequency words at the 1st-grade level. Since these words are high-utility words, it is important that students recognize them (even if they haven’t been explicitly taught how to decode them yet). This means they need to “lock” them into their memories, and these activities help them do just that.

 How we use them:

• Small groups & literacy centers – Use these books in your small group time and/or literacy centers to support students’ knowledge of lock words.
• Home practice – The perforated pages make it easy to send specific pages home so that students can practice in multiple settings!
