Crazy Short Vowels Game

Increase students’ knowledge and application of their short vowel sounds with this Crazy Short Vowels game! Whether you are working to develop decoding skills or using these words to enhance vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, or writing instruction – this easy-to-play game ensures students get the review they need with the level of fun they enjoy! Play with students or have them play with their peers to keep them occupied while you work with other students or groups.

How to Play:

The game can be played with 2-4 players. To start, shuffle the deck and deal 7 cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in the middle and turn over the top card. Player 1 will look at the word on the card and choose a card from their hand that has the same vowel sound, beginning sound, or ending sound. They will lay it down on top of the pile and read the word. The next player then goes. If a player cannot play, they must draw a card. The game continues until a player plays all their cards.
